I agree that the black community needs to be rejuvenized. I only wish we could return to the demographics that existed when Rev. Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream speech". Then we had black men who would be fathers to the children they make. Kwanzaa is NOT the answer to turn this around. The creator of this holiday was motivated by hatred not love. Hatred of God and hatred of white society. The gangsta hip-hop, pimps-n-ho's pop culture we have today, together with a continued racist agenda that encourages us to get all we can from the government is what is and will continue to ruin us as a society. We need to return to God and self-sufficiency. Where is our honor, where is our pride? Turn from racism and stand on your own two feet with God as your guide. That's what is needed.

A part of black history is the story of Toussaint L’Ouverture from Haiti who fought against the French oppressors and the slave trade. A dramatized clip of his last moments in prison is found here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2468184/ This is from the film “The Last Days of Toussaint L’Ouverture.”

Thank you for this post celebrating the wisdom of our ancestors. It is important to remember the wise words of our ancestors, and even more important to pass on the sayings to the young so they have a sense of history and culture.

Blessings,

Yvonne Nothango

Thanks to this site for allowing us, me an opportunity to share a few words concerning the works, words, deeds and visonary servant/leadership of families, through ouw women interim-governmental movement; to do all things for ourselves. The record is replete with the wonderful women of our Cushite linage, by many names, and profound talents . May i share now, my thirty plus years of admiration, vision of Dr. Anna Julia Haywood Cooper. Appreciation is given to Drs. Jewel R. Crawford Mazique, Doris Hull,Pauline Myers, Bettye Collier Thomas; and especially the women who silently represent our Mothers, my Mother, GrandMother, through families .
Anna J. Cooper's birth Tuesday, August 10, 2010 will be her 152nd, and we who live the vision of communially building, our own vine and fig tree; yes, from the earth up .We , of the OUR OWN HISTORY CLUB are excited , as we will read from, her works at 801 Euclid St. N.W., and invite those, who read this missive to look into Cooper's bio, and do something now .
With Abundant love, Miracles thrive: Min: ODUNO,
